- Jan 18, 2016 But I was thinking instead of making and storing a CD for each computer (and making a new one each time there is an update that affects the rescue media), I could keep a bootable USB stick and on-the-fly, copy the file s from the ISO for a particular computer.
- Complete the below mentioned steps to prepare Macrium Reflect rescue media. You can either use a CD/DVD or USB drive to prepare the rescue media. Step 1: Run Macrium Reflect software. Step 2: Click on the Create bootable rescue media icon (the first one) in the toolbar or click Other Tasks menu and then click Create Rescue Media option to open Rescue Media wizard.
Basically you can put one or several different ISOs on a USB drive and upon booting the USB you can choose which ISO to boot to. Instead of updating an old Macrium Boot Restore Boot Flash that works, and over. It's possible to create a single Reflect WinPE rescue media build on a USB stick that can handle quite a wide range of hardware. If you computer refuses to boot or load Windows, or if you are trying to restore an image to a partition the Reflect cannot lock, then you will have to start your PC using a rescue CD or boot into the Windows PE recovery environment. The Macrium rescue CD uses either Linux, BartPE or Windows PE 2.0 (Vista). To burn the CD.

(Solved) - Macrium Reflect Free version for to clone hd

Some time ago I posted a question about finding software that can make an exact clone of my hard drive. I want to clone my hard drive to a larger hard drive. Remove the current hard drive and install the cloned hard drive to take its place. It needs to be able to boot an function exactly like the hard drive it is replacing with nothing lost or changed. I was told to download 'Macrium Reflect Free version'. I did download it and just got around to trying to use it to clone my hard drive. I installed the software on a test PC running Windows XP and it installed perfectly. When I start the Macrium Reflect software it appears to only be able to make image backups not clone a hard drive. Am I missing something?
BEST to use [ whs ISO ] and burn it to CD or Bootable USB Stick.

whs really did Huge Favor for ALL.
OK; with StringJunky assistance I was able to get it to do a clone. Thank you StringJunky. However; the purpose of doing this clone was to get a larger hard drive for my C drive. It did not give me the option to expand the partition to the entire size of the new hard drive. Way back in the dark ages I had software that could clone and expand to use the entire hard drive. Is that option in this software and I am again working with my blinders on or is this software unable to do what I want?

I've never done a clone with it but if you use the default image function you do get the option to expand. As far as I remember, an image would have put the files as they were in the original. I see no point in using a clone....you gain nothing except a much bigger space-wasting file to store. An image of a 20gb partition is typically 8GB compared to the full 20GB for a clone. It's YOUR computer though and I'll help you do it the way you want it, if I can. ;)

It is easy to expand. Post a picture of Disk Management on your new drive and I will try to tell you how to do it.
Thanks whs for jogging my memory. I went to the command line and used the diskpart.exe command to expand the partition and it work beautifully. Now the next step is to test this clone with the extended partition. I will be taking out the current C drive and installing this new cloned and expanded partition hard drive as the C drive then attempt to start up the computer booting from this drive. I will let you know the outcome tomorrow. Thanks whs.
Everything worked great. I took out the C drive, set the cloned hard drive with the expanded partition to use the entire drive to master and installed it as the C drive. The computer booted perfect and I now have the much larger C drive with everything looking and working as before. Thanks everyone for all your help.
If this is an XP (or Vista) system on the SSD, periodic Secure Erase operations would be in order. Only Windows 7 supports Trim and without it, your Write performance will degrade over time.
LH. can you list the ones where it does. Would be useful info.
whs. Haven't checked them all, but the OCZ Vertex does.
